Shannon Acevedo Graduates ULI North Florida’s Center for Leadership Program

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) recently graduated its first North Florida chapter class of the Center for Leadership program, and we are proud to announce Shannon Acevedo was among those graduates. Reflecting on her time in the program, Shannon says, “The training was invaluable for anyone from those in new leadership positions to seasoned professionals wanting to sharpen their skills. It was an eight-course program spread over nine months meeting for a full day once per month with an action-packed agenda of trainings, lectures, and teamwork activity. Each day had a theme related to land development such as infrastructure, environmental, and finance just to name a few. Leadership training themes spanned everything from managing stress levels, to understanding personality types, to improving emotional intelligence. In addition, each course was set in a unique location within northeast Florida offering opportunities to connect with professionals in a variety of fields and disciplines throughout the region”.

“ULI is known for its diverse membership, and this class included all walks of land development including planners, engineers, attorneys, developers, and finance professionals. It was a great way to get to know people in the industry and gain a broader view of how development works. Finally, my favorite part was the mini Technical Assistance Panel (mTAP). We were divided up into four groups and challenged to research and come up with recommendations for the US 301 bypass affecting Bradford County and the City of Starke. Each group presented its findings during the last class offering suggestions on topics such as land use and zoning policy, transportation design, economic development and marketing, funding, and intergovernmental cooperation. Stakeholders attended the final presentation and were excited about collaborating with us to bring recommendations forward to local boards and work toward implementation”.
