North Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

The capacity on this Port Aransas facility, owned by the Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District No. 4, will increase from 1.38 million gallons per day to 1.88 million gallons per day, when construction is completed in the summer of 2003. Aeration, chlorine disinfecting and dewatering facilities will be included. Improvements include conversion of existing extended aeration unit to complete mix process, conversion of a concentric circular package plant to an aerated unit, new clarifier, additional chlorine contact chamber, conversion of a concentric circular package plant to aerobic digester with a thickener and new concrete lined sludge drying beds. Past projects include construction of a fine screen facility on the headworks to remove problematic debris prior to raw wastewater entering the plant for treatment.
